For the Imposter:
Avoid detection by blending in and try to guess the secret word based on others' clues.

Ages and up
- At least 4 players (best with 6–10)
- Slips of paper and a pencil (or index cards/phones)
- A way to secretly assign one "Imposter" slip and the rest with the secret word
Gather players and materials
Bring together at least 4 players and prepare slips of paper: one with 'Imposter' and the rest with the chosen secret word.
Choose a secret word
Pick a word from a list, generator, or by suggestion. Example: Pizza.
Deal the papers
Hand out the slips so that all but the imposter see the secret word.
Decide who goes first
Choose a starting player (youngest player, roll of dice, or random pick). Play moves clockwise.
Give clues in turn
Each player gives one word to describe the secret word, without saying it directly. Example: If the word is Pizza, clues might be 'Cheesy' or 'Slices.' Continue around the circle.
Continue taking turns
Go around for several rounds of clues. The imposter tries to blend in by guessing what the word might be based on others' clues.
Discuss and vote
After 2–3 rounds, everyone discusses and votes on who they think the imposter is. Each player points at or calls out their choice. The person with the most votes is revealed.
Reveal and recap
Reveal the secret word and the imposter. Recap funny or odd clues — often the best part is laughing about why someone described a word in such a weird way.
Play the next round
Start a new round with a fresh word and slips of paper. Ideally, play enough rounds so that everyone has a chance to be the imposter.
If the Imposter is Caught:
The group scores 1 point
If the Imposter Survives:
The imposter scores 1 point, plus a bonus point if they correctly guess the secret word
As a Non-Imposter:
Give clear but not too obvious clues to help your team but not the imposter. Pay attention to hesitation, vague answers, or odd clues that don't match.
As the Imposter:
Listen closely to others' clues and mimic their style without slipping up. Try to piece together what the word might be from the clues given.
